Hello,
I’m Sesilja Lindell, an artist from Finland. I grew up in a small farmhouse surrounded by forest, and in my childhood I developed a deep love for nature and animals.
My artwork represents the lost and remaining wild nature of my homeland and the ever changing connection it’s people have with it. In an increasingly artificial world where the distance between us and all things wild has become vast, can the smallest glance towards nature help us remember what it was, is, to exist in harmony.
I’m inspired by the forest and the fascinating, complex life it supports. Ideas for paintings are sparked by what I see and feel in the forest, by an appreciation towards the wisdom that exists in it, and by poems and folk tales written about it.
Watercolor and gouache are my mediums of choice, often combined. I love the rugged softness that comes from working with water. Pure white paper is a bit of a nemesis, which is why I tend to tone my paper to achieve a nice warm base to work on.
